WELCOME!

Handicapped children are finding new freedom on horseback at the Handicapped Equestrian Learning Program, Inc., (HELP) Center. Since 1984, HELP has provided a safe and caring environment for children with disabilities to experience the joy of horseback riding.

Riding therapy has been utilized by centers throughout the United States for over twenty years. It is a proven method to exercise, mobilize, and motivate the mind and body. It emphasizes the rider's abilities, not disabilities.

HELP's instructors work closely with other professionals and parents to individualize lessons to maximize each rider's abilities. This team effort challenges riders to learn and use horsemanship skills.

Safety is a major concern. Each student is taught by an instructor and aided by leaders and sidewalkers as needed. The horses for this program have been carefully schooled and are exceptionally gentle and loving.

Types of disabilities do not exclude an individual's participation. Currently riders with cerebral palsy, learning disabilities, autism, and visual impairments are experiencing the joy of riding and the warm bond between horse and rider.

HELP's successes are not miracles, but result from the caring and cooperation of many people. Riders, families, volunteers, and sponsors are having amazing results. If you have the time, talent, or treasure to become a part of HELP's team and share in our success, we'd love to hear from you.

Thank you,
The HELP Center Team

Dedication

On December 5th, the HELP Center planted and dedicated a tree in memory of Becky and William Craig. They were treasured members of the HELP Center family.

The Therapy Horse

I can ’t walk, but he gives me wings
I can’t speak, but I don’t need to
He understands me
I can touch him, and he won't draw back

I can hug him, and he’ll stand still
With him I have four legs instead of none
I have a freedom when I had none
He sees me:
Not how I look, nor how I act, nor how I speak
I can tell him things without anybody listening
Only him, only he hears
He is my friend:
My wings, my hope, my dreams, my secrets
All wrapped up in one beautiful, caring, magnificent Therapy horse
